Pinellas County Watering Restrictions & Sprinkler Scheduling

Sprinkler schedules in Dunedin may be affected by residential lawn watering rules established under a Southwest Florida Water Management District water shortage order. Under the current Modified Phase III order, residential lawn watering is limited to one assigned day per week. Watering must occur between 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m. or between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.

Assigned watering schedules differ for customers north and south of SR 580. The applicable day can also depend on the property’s water supplier. Residents who receive water from a supplier other than Pinellas County Utilities should confirm current days and restrictions directly with that supplier before programming a controller.

New sod and similar plantings may qualify for a 60-day establishment watering exemption when the required proof is submitted online. This exemption applies during the establishment period, but property owners still need to verify the requirements for their address.

Under the Modified Phase III order, hand watering and microirrigation for plants, shrubs, and other non-lawn areas are permitted daily before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. We account for current residential watering restrictions when setting up smart controllers or making seasonal scheduling adjustments.

Why Professional Infrastructure Care Is Vital

Managing underground landscape hydration demands technical knowledge of fluid dynamics, low-voltage wiring, and municipal plumbing codes. Unskilled attempts to patch buried piping or adjust control manifolds often introduce pressure variations, leading to hidden subsoil leaks, topsoil washouts, and dead grass patches.

Professional technicians possess diagnostic tools to locate subterranean pipe splits and shorted valve wiring without tearing up your lawn unnecessarily. Expert care guarantees that backflow preventers operate correctly, protecting drinking water supplies from cross-contamination while adhering to safety standards.

Relying on qualified specialists guards long-term equipment investments and prevents continuous water loss. Accurate component selection and precise spray adjustments save time, lower utility bills, and support lasting landscape vitality.

Routine Sprinkler Inspections & Seasonal Maintenance

We recommend scheduling an irrigation inspection at least twice a year, ideally before summer and after the rainy season. These inspections can uncover leaks, clogs, and inefficiencies that may otherwise go unnoticed. They also provide an opportunity to review system performance across the property.

A general inspection covers sprinkler heads, individual zones, controller settings, and visible leaks. Misaligned heads can send water outside the intended area, while clogged heads may produce uneven coverage. Correcting those issues restores the intended spray pattern and reduces unnecessary water use.

FAQs About Sprinkler Systems in Dunedin

Why is water seeping from my Dunedin sprinkler heads when the system is off?

Weeping heads indicate a faulty zone valve, where sand debris is trapped inside the valve diaphragm or internal rubber seals have worn down, preventing a tight shutoff.

How do Pinellas County watering restrictions affect my sprinkler system programming?

Local rules restrict watering to specific days and hours. Our technicians program digital controllers and calibrate rain sensors to ensure your system remains fully compliant year-round.

What causes low water pressure across an entire sprinkler zone in Dunedin?

Pressure drops in a single zone usually point to a cracked subterranean feed line, a partially closed valve, or clogged filter screens along that lateral line.

Can grass roots or dirt block my sprinkler heads from popping up?

Yes, accumulating soil, sand, and overgrown turf around wiper seals bind the riser stem, keeping pop-up heads stuck down during watering cycles.

Controller Settings Through Changing Seasons

Controller schedules need adjustment as seasonal rainfall changes. Settings suited to one part of the year may not match later conditions or current residential watering restrictions. We provide seasonal adjustments and smart controller setup for homeowners who need assistance managing those settings.

Warning signs that may require service include dry areas, pooling water, damaged heads, and zones that don’t activate as expected.
